A Prayer for Military Marriages

Father,
Thank you for your love, kindness, and patience towards us. May we show that same love, kindness, and patience towards our spouses today. Lord, you give us each the Holy Spirit as our guide. Keep us from trying to be the Holy Spirit for our spouse. When we try to remove the specks from their eyes, show us the logs in our own. May we be slow to anger and quick to love. May we cover over a thousand wrongs, and may gentle words turn away anger.
Lord, we ask that you fight on our behalf and protect us from outside threats. That no other human will come between us to turn our eyes from one another or tempt us to forget our covenant. Like Joseph may we flee from temptation in every form. May we remember that our bodies are not our own, but belong to the other. And so, may we not deny each other, but remember that we are renewing our covenant vows to one another. Help us to cherish this gift.
We ask for the courage to walk alongside other married couples and develop friendships with those more experienced and less. Help us to learn from the wisdom of established marriages and the passion of young marriages. Give us willing hearts to share the lessons you have taught us that others may learn without the pain of experience. May we celebrate together the work you have done in our lives.
Protect us when we are separated by the calls of our nation. Give us new and creative ways to communicate and encourage one another during these times. When deployments end, ease the reunion and help us to treat each other gently valuing the other over ourselves.
Lord, help us to see each other and seek help when we need it. Keep us connected and grounded, so that suicide will not separate spouses again.
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray,
