Upon His Shoulder

Key Bible Passage:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Reflect:

In uniform, we carry rank and status upon our shoulder boards. We’re familiar with the routine–a glance at the eyes, a glance at the shoulders, a second, measured glance at the eyes.

If we glance at Christ’s shoulders, we see the government upon his shoulder, and many more credentials. Christ will usher in lasting peace, justice, and righteousness by the zeal of the Lord of the heavenly armies!

Let’s unwrap and savor God’s attributes this Christmas Eve – Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Let’s share in that zeal today, and every day, thanking God for a season to celebrate his might. Declare Isaiah 9:6-7 aloud in worship.

Merry Christmas from Planting Roots!

Respond:

  • Many celebrate the season through “Epiphany” and “Three Kings Day.” Look them up!
  • Listen to “Sit Enthroned” by The School of Worship. Praise him with Christmas carols!
