Cultivating Worthwhile Weekly Bible Studies for Military Women & Groups
ROOTED Bible studies by Planting Roots are designed with military women in mind. They are short but not shallow, using only a Bible, a blank journal or notebook, and a desire to draw near to our God Most High. Whether doing this study at home or as part of a group, we hope you will gain spiritual strength as you encounter God.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_postslider layout=”posts” excerpt=”15″ category=”design” limit=”2″ lightbox=”yes” class=”” id=””][/fusion_postslider][fusion_text][/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”#6a6970″ background_image=”” background_parallax=”fixed” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”#e5e4e4″ border_style=”” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” padding_left=”0px” padding_right=”0px” hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”left” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”fade” animation_direction=”right” animation_speed=”1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”” background_image=”” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding_top=”20″ padding_bottom=”20″ padding_left=”” padding_right=”” hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_title size=”2″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” class=”” id=””]Habakkuk 2: Do You Worship or Worry in the Waiting Rooms of Life?[/fusion_title][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container background_color=”” background_image=”” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_webm=”” video_mp4=”” video_ogv=”” video_preview_image=”” overlay_color=”” overlay_opacity=”0.5″ video_mute=”yes” video_loop=”yes” fade=”no” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding_top=”20″ padding_bottom=”20″ padding_left=”” padding_right=”” hundred_percent=”no” equal_height_columns=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” menu_anchor=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_text]
I will stand at my watch
and station myself on the ramparts;
I will look to see what he will say to me,
and what answer I am to give to this complaint.
Habakkuk 2:1 (NIV)
Life is filled with waiting. Do you worship or worry in the waiting rooms of life?
Waiting can be hard. What’s inside that can make us restless as we wait for news about a test result, job relocation or something “smaller” like waiting for someone to come home on time? Assuming there are always two kingdoms in conflict – the kingdom of this world and the kingdom of heaven – what kingdom struggle presents itself as we wait? How can we take the high ground? How can God use the waiting rooms of life to grow & strengthen us?
Habakkuk is made up of 3 short chapters (thus called a minor prophet because of its brevity) and speaks to waiting well.
Let’s see who Habakkuk waits on or trusts in. Habakkuk’s honest complaint – his lament – was rooted in his hope for a political and moral reversal. Sound familiar? He was perplexed as to why God would allow this and brought his question to God. Notice His grievance was not to his neighbor, his ulcer, or to the “powers that be” but to a saving God (3:18). Because God’s purposes are redemptive, we can rest as we wait.
It’s also instructive to see where Habakkuk waits. In verse 2:1 Habakkuk takes his “stand at the watchpost” and “stations himself on the tower.” Watchposts and towers (great waiting rooms!) are high and protected places that recognize a battle at hand. Isaiah 57:15 says this of the Lord Himself: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit. Because God dwells with us, we can dwell on the eternal as we wait for the temporal.
How do I tend to wait – anxiously or patiently? Habakkuk’s posture is expectant and prayerful. Verse 2:1 says “I take my stand” and “I station myself” which implies an attitude and positioning. Do I allow circumstances to bully and imbalance me, pushing me off my firm foundation? Because God secures us, we can push back with kingdom thinking and so position ourselves withstand the pressures of life as we wait for change.
How we wait, where we wait, and on Whom we wait makes all the difference. One way strengthens us, the other weakens us. One way puts us on high ground, the other lays us low.
Be aware of how you tend to wait and seize opportunities to “live by faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4).

- How can gaining confidence in God’s character help us wait well?
- What might it look like to wait on/in the Lord, seeing Him as our watchpost and tower?
- How is it tempting to allow the not yet knowing or not yet resolved to my satisfaction, to bully and imbalance us, pushing us off our firm foundation?
- In regard to waiting, what does God mean when tells Habakkuk “the just shall live by faith”? How could this contrast with living by sight?
Directives for the Week
- Read Habakkuk 2, keeping in mind this is God’s answer to Habakkuk’s complaint.
- Lift up your own concerns, complaints or questions to God. Using a journal can help.
- Ask God to show you what your “waiting rooms” tend look like and whether you need an upgrade. Ask Him to be your watchpost and tower, and resolve to watch and listen.
- Additional verses to ponder: Isaiah 57:15, Romans 8:28, Hebrews 11 (living by faith)
- What can you learn or apply from the text box about how Habakkuk’s waited?
