Give this day our daily bread…
John 6: 31-35
I was born and raised in France. We like good food and fellowship. We like our cheeses and are pretty proud of our wines but most of all we love our bread. The staple of any French meal is a slice (or two or three…) of bread or baguette.
I remember as a kid walking to the boulangerie, to buy the bread for the day. You see, baguettes are best eaten fresh. After a couple of days the bread gets stale and can no longer appear on the table. We do not throw away that bread. We make pain perdu meaning lost bread.
You guys call it French Toast.
Bread comes in many forms and has been used for thousands of years by people of all races and colors. Some call it bread, baguette, flatbread, naan, tortilla, pão de queijo, Bauernbrot, unleavened, gluten free…..
Bread is a part of our lives.
When Jesus fed the five thousands, he fed them fish and bread. With the leftovers loaves, he gives his disciples an important lesson.
“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:36
I do not believe that the disciples comprehended the magnitude of Jesus’ words. Hard lessons are best understood, when reflected on. Jesus is not talking about giving us the moon or fulfilling all our wishes. Much more important than that, Jesus is promising us that he will always fulfill our most basic needs: hunger and thirst. All we have to do is come to Him.

How do we come to him:
- By inviting Him in our daily activities
- By praying
- By fellowshipping with other believers
- By listening to good Christian music
- By reading Christian authors
- By listening to Christian podcasts
You can add to this list but the best place to come to Him is by reading the Bible. Jesus is the Word (John 1).
There is no better place than your Bible to come to Him and be fed.
