I brewed, stirred, forged the words in my mind to perfect hardened steel. If that commander who was mistreating my husband said one thing to me, I’d let him have it.

The kid on the team bullying my boy? He’d better not see me in a dark alley.

It took me awhile, but I figured out a cunning passive-aggressive barb for the friend who hurt me.

And if my husband brings up that hot button issue, I have a rehearsed arsenal to throw at him.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_text]Ahhh… Sweet revenge! We have a deep-seated desire for justice. But it has to be our version of justice. Forgiveness is often a hard obstacle for us to get over, mostly because we don’t have a good sense of our own shortcomings.

We want right to win and all to end well. We all love a story of redemption, and we see it everywhere in our literature and entertainment. Creation’s entire story is one of redemption. That’s why God is named the Redeemer.

We see our Redeemer blessing Eve with children; leading Moses out of Egypt; giving Ruth a family; restoring Job’s fortunes; making the woman at the well a messenger; turning Paul into a prophet. And ultimately, Jesus, our knight in shining armor, rode in and saved us.

Redemption has two sides to its sword: buying or saving someone from slavery, and avenging blood. The Lord who says ‘vengeance is mine’ is the One who has the right to avenge blood. When we seek vengeance, we are playing God. Giving up that control is the only way we can truly forgive, and truly be forgiven.
How did Corrie Ten Boom forgive the Nazi guards who killed her sister? How to give up that control?

Redeemer

Think about it:

  1. What are your favorite biblical or fictional redemption stories?
  2. What areas in your life are most hard to forgive?
  3. In what areas of your life do you struggle to trust God?

Daily Reflections:

job1925Day 1: Read Psalm 19:14

How does remembering your redemption story, and your Redeemer, change the words of your mouth and the thoughts of your heart?

Day 2: Read Ezekiel 16

Here’s a graphic story of redemption, and redemption lost. What did she throw it all away for? Greed and pride. How do greed and pride lure you away from the joy of your redemption?

Day 3: Read Job 19:23-27

Job turned his bitterness, hatred, desire for revenge into longing for his Redeemer. He utterly trusted the Lord would make it right. Can you, with the Lord’s help, do the same today?

Day 4: Read Isaiah 43:1-21

What has the Lord brought you through? Tell the story to your children—again. Make a visual reminder: a pile of stones with each stone representing a miracle, or set out a picture from the difficult time and put a sticky note with Isaiah 43:1 on it.

Day 5: Read Isaiah 48:17-22; Luke 21:25-28

What do you need to trust the Lord for in the future?[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”single solid” top_margin=”” bottom_margin=”10px” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” class=”” id=””/][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_6″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”none” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Welcome to Monday Minute With God. A place to start the week right and tools to keep you in the Word all week long.
