Hands of God

Sisters.

Friends. Women. Fellow warriors.

I don’t know where I’d be without you.

I’m not talking about the blood-related kind. I’m talking about the women who have walked this military life alongside me. Time and time again, they have “held up my arms” in the battle of long deployments, moving vans, chapel and unit ministries, and so much more.

They have been the ones who have put their arms around me when life gets messy and hard and celebrated with me in each victory along the way. Some have done this throughout the years. Some have done it on the fly – even though they just met me.

Our relationships are fast and furious, often without the luxury of taking our time to “get to know” each other, understanding that we do not have the time to waste. We just determine to be “sisters” and commit to loving and standing beside one another. They have brought food, prayers, hugs, laughter, and even wine to the table.

Military sisters…it’s just what we do.

Today, I want to say “thank you.”

This is who you are to me. And if you are reading this, perhaps you have had the honor of sharing life with one of them, too. I sure hope so.

You are beautiful.

You are fierce and bold and brave.

You are quick to love.

You are strong.

You are willing to stand in the gap, on that wall…anytime…anywhere.

You aren’t intimidated by my mess and are never afraid to join me in it.

You are kind in the simplest of ways, thoughtful beyond measure.

You are faithful, tried, and true.

You are tender when you need to be and don’t mind hurting my feelings when I need to be reminded of the Truth.

You are real, authentic in faith and loyal in friendship.

You challenge me.

You inspire me.

You get me.

Military sisters…you are the hands of God to me. I am beyond grateful for you and the ways you have blessed and encouraged my heart over the years.

Recently, I heard the song entitled, “Hands of God” by Francesca Battestelli and it made me think of them. I pray that as you listen, those “sisters” in your own journey will come to mind and you will take a moment to let them know how very special they are. We are a unique breed of women indeed.

(9) Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
(10) If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up…
(12) A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)

And let us always endeavor to be the hands of God to those He places in our lives. It matters.

With joy for the journey,
Sarah
